Mango is a sacred tree from Asia, traditionally used for its nutritional properties. Cultivated for over 4000 years, it has spread rapidly throughout the world.

Its fruit is called " drupe ": in botany, these are fleshy fruits usually consisting of a single seed or stone like cherries, apricots or olives. Mangoes have a smooth, thin skin and are green, yellow or scarlet in colour, depending on the variety and amount of sun exposure.

The mango contains a large, flat kernel which itself contains a single seed 4-7cm long. This precious kernel contains a butter that is rich in essential fatty acids.

PROPERTIES OF OUR MANGOES

Why is it so effective for your dry hair?

The mango butter that is extracted from the kernel is very rich in essential fatty acids with exceptional nourishing properties. After we collect the mango pulp, the pits are gathered and dried in the sun. Mango has a very low melting point at - 35°C so we use cold pressing- a mechanical extraction method to preserve the nourishing properties of the butter.

The butter is extracted without using water or solvents, to make sure the rich healthy fatty acids remain unaltered and at their peak- - Specifically, it’s the oleic and stearic fatty acids that make mango butter such an effective ingredient for dry hair The butter then undergoes cold pressing, filtration and physical refining by vacuum deodorisation as well as decolorisation using diatomaceous earth.

AND FOR THE PLANET?

Our commitment

kl_mango_active-ingredient_stock_website_active-page -3- 472x592

Social Commitment

Klorane innovates using what was once discarded and considered waste: the pits are cold-pressed to extract this highly nutritious butter. A responsible resource and additional income for local communities.
Respect for the environment

Respect for the environment

Our mango range contributes to Klorane's commitment to the environment, saving 98% more water per year

Re-purposing of the mango kernels

In producing our Mango hair care range, Klorane makes use of mango kernels that would otherwise be discarded.

Grown in the tropics for their delicious juicy flesh, the mangoes are picked at the peak of their ripeness. Klorane innovates by making use of the usually discarded by-product- the kernel then cold-pressing it to extract the highly nutritious butter. And it's a " win-win ": an eco-friendly resource for us and additional income for local communities.
