What does it look like?

kl_chamomile_active-ingredient_field_plant_2019 -64- 472x592
Chamomile matricaria, a perennial plant native to Europe, belongs to the Asteraceae family. It is small, with a single erect stem.
kl_chamomile_active-ingredient_field_plant_2019 -66- 472x592
The tiny flowers are recognisable by their unique scent, which reminded the Greeks of apples, who named the chamomile " chamaimelon ", which means "earth-apple ".
kl_chamomile_active-ingredient_field_plant_2019 -62- 472x592
We grow this flower of light in the sandy, sun-drenched soils of Egypt to encourage growth, while respecting the surrounding ecosystem. Harvested from May to September when in full bloom, the flower heads are dried naturally in the sun.

PROPERTIES OF CHAMOMILE

Why is it so effective for blonde hair?

We selected a variety of chamomile that is rich in apigenin, a yellow pigment found in the petals. This pigment has natural properties, that naturally and gently lighten all hair shades, from blonde to brown. The natural pigments of the plant attach to the hair without penetrating the hair strand.

Chamomile is where it all began for Klorane: it was the ingredient in our first shampoo 50 years ago. Since then, chamomile has become our iconic haircare product whose secret is passed from mother to daughter, reflecting the bond that binds us to our consumers- a tradition we are very proud of.

A few words from our expert

Chamomile matricaria is widely cultivated in Egypt, which specialises in the cultivation of aromatic plants for herbal teas; the ray florets are a by-product of the manufacture of these infusions.

Did you know?

Galen, an ancient Greek physician, recommended Chamomile for fevers, aches and pains and female disorders. This is why it is also called matricaria, meaning mother. It is also said that the smell of chamomile prevents bees from stinging honey gatherers.
