The scalp is skin and may become dry and irritated due to small daily aggressions. Learn how to pamper and soothe your scalp with products containing naturally-derived ingredients..

How do I know if my scalp is dry and irritated?

Does it itch or is the sensation more of a tingle? Whatever the case, put an end to dryness and feelings of discomfort and itching with products containing naturally-derived ingredients!

A dry, irritated scalp can cause feelings of discomfort: itching, tingling, tightness... Small red patches and visible flakescan also appear in short, a dry and irritated scalp is incredibly unpleasant! When these signs appear, you need to help out your dry, irritated scalp as soon as possible to avoid further feelings of discomfort and the skin becoming more fragile with suitable hair care product formulated using gentle and soothing formula.

What can cause dryness and irritation to the scalp?

Sensitive skin is skin that reacts more to aggressions and genetics plays a major role in skin sensitivity. Moreover, the scalp is a particularly sensitive area that we are not used to caring for, even though it faces numerous daily aggressions! Pollution and stress are factors that are difficult to avoid, but that’s not the case for all aggressions.

There are three types of aggressions that affect the scalp: physiological, environmental and lifestyle-related. It’s difficult to control environmental factors like pollution, humidity, UV rays, temperature changes, cold weather, wind etc. Stress is another factor that can be difficult to control too.

Fortunately, others are easier to avoid: the excessive use of heat when drying hair, which dries and weakens the skin, the use of unsuitable or overly aggressive products (a shampoo that is too detergent, certain dyes, etc.) and certain habits linked to our lifestyle: frequent use of motorbike helmets or smoking.

As far as physiological causes are concerned, dermatitis linked to an alteration in the skin barrier, such as psoriasis or eczema, are the most common sources, particularly if your scalp is extremely itchy (in which case you should see a doctor).

What does cleansing the scalp entail?

Cleansing helps restore balance to the scalp, this means purifying and soothing it so that it can better protect itself. There are many natural ingredients with protecting and soothing properties: peony contains a molecule with anti-irritant properties. Nature always has the solution... including when it comes to scalp pampering!

Good habits

5 tips on how to protect your hair and scalp

  • Use a gentle, shampoo containing naturally-derived ingredients that’s suitable for your scalp and don’t overwash your hair to avoid sensitising the scalp.
  • Avoid products with silicone in them as they weigh down the hair.
  • Use lukewarm water to wash your hair as hot water dries out and damages sensitive skin.
  • Activate blood circulation with a gentle massage, either when washing your hair or in the evening to relax before bed.
  • Regularly exfoliate the scalp with a suitable product (and remember to be gentle!).

ROUTINE FOR DRY, IRRITATED SCLAP

What's best for protecting and soothing my hair and scalp? Peony or Galangal?

The soothing action of peony

Traditionally used in Chinese medicine since the 10th century for its soothing properties, our botanists have selected this natural active ingredient for its richness in paeoniflorin. It is therefore ideal for quickly calming feelings of discomfort and itching caused by dryness. If you have a dry, irritated scalp but don't have visible flakes, choose peony.

Galangal, the anti-dandruff extract

Our Galangal comes from Indonesia and is grown on the island of Java with respect for the local communities and environment thanks to a programme set up by Klorane Botanical Foundation. Galangal works four times faster, and helps prevent reappearance of dandruff flakes for up to 1 month. If irriation is accompanied by flakes (fry or oily), then choose Galangal.

The power of peony to calm irritation caused by dryness

We chose Chinese Peony for its richness in paeoniflorin, a molecule with anti-irritant, soothing and anti-free radical properties that’s ideal to maintain healthy scalps. We cultivate it in China in the Shaanxi and Gansu provinces in a preserved ecosystem.
