Why is it so good for your hair?

The Prickly Pear is a medicinal plant belonging to the cactus family. It is naturally able to survive in the most arid of deserts, thanks to its ability to retain water inside its stems. We have selected Prickly Pear as the main active ingredient in our moisturizing hair care products, as it is particularly effective in actively moisturizing hair and scalp in new ways. In fact, the active ingredient extracted from this medicinal plant is more moisturizing than Glycerin, the dermatological reference molecule. It is the most effective moisturizing active ingredient in treatments for skin and hair lacking in water.

A word from our expert

An active ingredient with greater hydrating power than Glycerin, which binds water to the heart of the hair fiber. This bioinspired active ingredient with patented hydrating properties is derived from organically-grown Prickly Pear.

Prickly pear, a must-have for dehydrated & dull hair

Prickly Pear is a medicinal plant with recognized hydrating properties. It has a unique dual action:

  • It retains water at the heart of the hair fiber,
  • It creates a hydration shield on the surface.

The result? Hair is intensely hydrated, shiny and healthy-looking.

What is the difference between dry hair and dehydrated hair?

Dry hair is often confused with dehydrated hair. However, these are two very different hair problems:

  • Dry hair lacks lipids. It is brittle and rough, giving hair a dull, fragile appearance. Dry hair is often caused by low sebum production or heavy exposure to external aggressors.
  • Dehydrated hair mainly lacks water. It is frizzy, dull and can be electric. Dehydrated hair is often caused by a weakened capillary sheath, with detached cuticles that allow the water contained in the hair to escape.

Capillary dehydration is a poorly understood phenomenon, as dehydrated hair does not lack lipids and can become greasy. The problem is therefore often difficult to identify.

Prickly pear for the scalp

While moisturizing your skin has become instinctive, this isn't the case for the scalp. Often neglected to the detriment of the hair, the scalp also needs care. A lack of moisture in the scalp is due to an impaired skin barrier, causing dehydration which is characterized by a lack of suppleness and feelings of tension or discomfort. This is not to be confused with a dry scalp, which lacks nutrition.

Why use specific products for dehydrated hair?

Dehydrated hair, which can be recognized by its lack of shine and dull appearance, does not have the same needs as dry hair. On the contrary, applying nourishing treatments to dehydrated hair can make it heavy because of the excess lipids.
Treatments for dehydrated hair target both the supply of water to the hair fiber and the firming of the cuticles to prevent this water from evaporating.

What does Prickly Pear do for my hair?

Prickly Pear is an ideal active ingredient for dehydrated hair as its molecules absorb water and penetrate the hair fiber with it. They then form a protective film that helps seal the cuticles so that they regain their smooth appearance, reflecting light more effectively for a mirror-like shine.
Prickly Pear care products are therefore both hydrating and light, providing your hair with just the right amount of moisture and restoring its shine.

How can you incorporate our prickly pear range into your hair routine?

Prickly Pear can have multiple applications in your daily hair routine:

  • As a shampoo to moisturize your hair with each wash and reveal its shine.
  • As a conditioner to boost shine and detangle hair in a flash.
  • As a mask to moisturize at the heart of the fiber and illuminate hair.

Did you know?

The Prickly Pear is originally from Mexico, but has since spread to various parts of the world, especially the Mediterranean, Australia and South Africa. In many cultures, the Prickly Pear is seen as a symbol of protection, strength and resilience because of its ability to thrive in difficult and particularly arid environments.
