What does it look like?

The olive tree is a member of the Oleaceae family. It is one of the most easily recognisable fruit trees, both because of its age and its characteristic twiggy appearance.

The olive tree’s survival depends on its leaves, which help it to acclimatise in arid environments. When it rains, the leaves expand to store water and retract to block photosynthetic activity at the expense of the fruit in case of drought. This fruit tree is thought to have appeared in its wild form more than 14,000 years ago in Asia Minor, where huge forests of wild olive trees still exist today. The expansion of the olive tree is linked to the Mediterranean climate.

A gnarled trunk like a grapevine; a hard, dense wood; oval, elongated leaves curled at the edges that change colour from one side to the other; small white flowers in the leaf axils; and of course the olive, whose skin is covered with a waterproof material.

Why is it so good for your hair?

Hair is also subject to the effects of time. Losing vitality and condition hair can become dull and soft. As hair loses substance, it is weakened and becomes less resistant to external aggressions. The need: targeted anti-ageing hair care. 

We have selected the Koroneiki olive in the Peloponnese region of Greece to extract the green gold: a concentrate of longevity, rich in antioxidants. The anti-ageing benefits on the condition of hair weakened by time have been proven- replenishing thickness, substance and vitality. A true elixir of mythical youth!

Social Commitment

After terrible fires in the region in 2007, the Klorane Botanical Foundation committed to replanting 10,000 olive trees in western Peloponnese where we source our olive extract.

Respect for the environment

In 2014, the first olives were harvested: the ashes gave way to a new generation of olive trees whose olive oil is 100% organic and highly appreciated by the local population.

Did you know?

There is more than one myth surrounding the olive tree. While Hercules' most powerful weapon is said to be a club carved from its trunk, the stake with which Odysseus, the hero of Homer's Odyssey, drives through the eye of the Cyclops is also carved from an olive tree, a symbol of wisdom and strength.
